-Week 2-
- WEEK Two -
This week our team completed the major task of picking out a problem and finding a product that would help solve the problem at hand. We voted as a team and came up with a design plan.
Progress
Made This Week
P.D.S Chart
Drafting and revision of the rough draft of the PDS chart was completed this week and was submitted on Thursday. The following updates were made after this weeks meeting with our group:
- Voted on what product to move forward with.
- Added more constraints to the PDS chart.
Final Project Idea
We brainstormed in two teams to create two separate PDS charts over
the weekend and came together on Tuesday to compare.
- We voted on the UV Light box: The UV light box is a small box that anyone can insert used masks to be disinfected. The lid would close, and then one would wait a couple of minutes and then grabbed their sanitized mask. We plan to make the light box hold more than one mask.
Reviewed
our PDS Process
We reviewed the steps to be taken in defining the Project
Design Specifications for our project:
- Need: Medical personnel are having to reuse their disposable N95 respirator masks. Respirator masks are designed to be single use, allowing the healthcare provider to put on a new and sanitary mask each time they don one. They need a way to ensure their used masks are sanitary each time they have to put it back on.
- Define Functions: Outline the functional requirements
necessary to address the identified need. These functions must be
measurable. We discussed Space to contain items, UVc light which kills the virus.
- Determine Constraints: Identify the measurable limits
on the project such as unit amount, time and size.
Narrowed
Down our Project List
After discussing all of our ideas, we decided to narrow the
project list down to one.
- UVc Disinfectant Box: This device will disinfect 5-10 N95 respirator masks with UV light. It is expected to be a self-contained box that you would place the masks into, and close the lid for a relatively short amount of time while the disinfecting cycle runs. The box will be able to fit on a counter-top, be mounted on a wall, or be mounted to a rolling base. This project idea will be researched by Stafford, Alex, Robert, Seth, Luke, Dylan, and Michael.
Plan
for the Coming Week
Our primary goal this week is to finalize our Project Design Specification sheet. The detailed plan for
the week is as follows:
- Over the weekend, our group will conduct
research on their the UV light box and add to the PDS sheet to be submitted.
- On Monday we will discuss as a team on what to move forward with our PDR sheet.
- We will also have finished the PDS sheet and will be able to move forward with PDR planning.
Additional
goals for this week:
- Stafford and Robert will build out the task lists on
Planner for the PDR phase.
- With the final choice made each team
member will come up with a question for us to discuss on Thursdays meeting
and ask the industry advisors.
- Assign tasks for the PDR on Thursday.
- Blog post for Week Three (Assignment labelled Week 4)
will be posted by Seth on Thursday.
Areas
of Concern
Clarification question for the
Faculty Advisor: Would it be possible to receive a brief synopsis on what each
class level is covering in this course and what category of tasks are expected
to be completed by them? This could help during the task assignment process of
future project phases. But also areas of concern would be how realistic is this product design? For instance, is cost a factor or is it covered ?
